PNG can be enormous for photos. Converting to WebP gives you transparency support with dramatically smaller files.
WebP preserves transparency just like PNG. Logos, icons, and graphics with alpha channels convert perfectly.
WebP lossy at quality 80 is visually identical to PNG for most images — but the file is often 70% smaller.
For images without transparency, JPG at quality 85 is also a great option. WebP gives you the best of both worlds.
