Facebook re-compresses every photo you post. Uploading at low quality means double compression — the end result looks worse than if you'd uploaded at full quality.
Facebook recommends 2048 px wide for optimal display. Resizing to this width prevents Facebook from doing its own downscale at an unknown quality.
Quality 92 gives Facebook the cleanest possible source image. Their compression is aggressive enough — don't make it worse by starting with a low-quality file.
Profile photos and cover images get seen the most — upload at maximum quality. Albums and casual posts also benefit from starting at high quality.
